I have all these notes on my
phone from about a month ago. They’re titled “general thoughts re: end of year”
or “summer goals.” They’re all about leaving BC and going home. It feels weird
to be so immersed in two different worlds – it’s like I’m a child of divorce or
a senator who spends half his time in DC and half his time in his home state of
Nebraska, or wherever.

hedonism in the modern age
I usually don’t consider the long-term results of my
actions. Yesterday, I spent hours rereading American
Psycho instead of studying for my history midterm because I figured that in
the long-term it’s more valuable to be able to whip out Patrick Bateman
references than it is to know the specifics of the Haitian revolution, right?

don't tell me when to get married
I
had to read this Wall Street Journal article twice before I realized it’s not a
satire. Author Susan Patton purports that “the cornerstone of your future
happiness will be the man you marry.”

how to survive being a hannah
I’m usually told
what a Hannah I am right when I’m really striving to be a Marnie, or a Jessa or
even a Shosh. Hannah is childish and immature and creative, three qualities
that make for a good writer but usually terrible friend.
